Statement from VSC on today’s election result:
“The fact that the US, Britain and allies are refusing to recognise the result of Venezuela’s election, without providing a single piece of valid evidence as to why, is entirely consistent with their strategy of undermining democracy in Venezuela, including multiple coup attempts.
“Instead of seeking to restore calm and maintain peace, these statements are only likely to fuel violence from anti-democratic elements of the far-right wing opposition, and pave the way for further sanctions which have inflicted great damage, distress and death on the country.
“The international community must now respect the results of the election, alongside dropping these deadly sanctions for good.”
